Launched in 2016, PMFBY aims to provide financial security to farmers against crop losses due to natural calamities. Over 36 crore applications have been insured, with claims exceeding INR 1,07,059 crores.

The scheme offers comprehensive coverage for Kharif and Rabi crops and is voluntary for both loanee and non-loanee farmers. Technological integration through the Crop Insurance App, National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP), and drone assessments ensures fast, transparent processes.

PMFBY benefits 85% small and marginal farmers, with initiatives like ‘Meri Policy Mere Hath’ ensuring policy access at their doorstep. Beyond financial aid, awareness campaigns and grievance committees empower farmers and enhance accountability.
